Snap up a snag to support the SES

Sausage sizzles and the State Emergency Service – are arguably two of our countries finest institutions. This Saturday they come together for the Great Aussie BBQ! At Bunnings stores across the nation, all funds raised from the sale of their mouthwatering sausage sizzles will be donated to local SES units.

Come on down to either the Willetton or Cannington Bunnings stores on Saturday 28th January 2017 and snap up a snag to show your support for the Canning South Perth SES unit. Our SES volunteers will be on hand to support this cause and answer any queries you may have about your local SES unit.

New Year’s Day Concert and Fireworks

The volunteers at Canning South Perth SES kicked off 2017 in style at the City of Canning’s New Year’s Day Concert and Fireworks. Each year this community event attracts over 12000 people to the Shelley foreshore to enjoy live music, delicious food and a dazzling display of fireworks.

Canning South Perth SES was in attendance to respond to any emergencies that may have arisen. Our unit had two foot patrol teams who were a visible presence on the Shelley Beach Foreshore to assist with communications between the public and the event organisers. With the support of the Shelley Sailing Club, we also had two boat teams who worked on the beautiful Canning River to ensure river users had a safe and uninterrupted view of the fireworks. Our SES activities on the day were coordinated by our dynamic Operations Team.

Overall, the event was a great success, with the SES assisting to maintain the safety for all families and community members in attendance. It was also a fantastic opportunity for our volunteers to engage with their local community. Canning South Perth SES unit looks forward to continuing to support the City of Canning and the City of South Perth throughout 2017.

Festive fun at Canning South Perth SES

The Christmas spirit has hit the Canning South Perth SES unit! Santa’s little helpers arranged a barbeque feast for our unit members as a small token of thanks for their hard work over a very busy and successful 2016.

The celebrations also honored several members who have reached significant milestones of service with the SES. Our thanks and congratulations go to Vinka for five years of service and Val for an amazing 30 years’ service to our local community through her dedication and commitment to the State Emergency Service.

After completing over 5000 hours of training this year, our members are taking a well-deserved break from training for the remainder of 2016. Rest assured that the volunteers of Canning South Perth SES remain on call over the festive period.

From all our members, we wish the residents of Canning and South Perth a safe and relaxing Christmas break and a very happy new year!!!

Are you committed to attending regular training and activating during events? Are you active, adventurous, enthusiastic and willing to give back to your community?

We have several information sessions upcoming for 2017.

Our information night provides a brief overview into what SES volunteers really do and what the requirements and commitments will be. You will also get the chance to tour the unitwall paper 1280x960 1, to meet existing members, and to ask any questions. This is your opportunity to try before you buy and if you decide that you would like to apply, you can register to attend our induction program before you leave. If you decide that the SES is not for you then that is absolutely ok as well!

Eggstraordinary Training 2/8/16

A recent training night sorted out the chickens from the eggs. Teams were pitted against each other in an eggciting challenge that took their creative and communication skills to the next level. Teams had to design and build a ship for their egg to be able to survive a single story drop and a long distance throw. The design was put together by one half of the team and the other half had to build it with all communication via the radio. Let’s just say it was an eggciting night of fun and mayhem.

May Storms

Canning South Perth SES had a busy May with a severe storm hitting the metro area on the 21 May 2016. We responded from the early hours of Saturday morning and continued into Sunday with over 30 requests for assistance.

We attended jobs ranging from trees down to multiple roofs that had sustained damage and where letting water in. The operations team did a great job to receipt all the tasks, process and allocate them to the teams. A great job by all members who gave up their weekend to assist the community!

A timely reminder now that winter has come, for all homeowners to ensure they remain up to date with all storm warnings and by aware of responding volunteer emergency services after any storm event.
